The E39 M5 was the successor to the 6 cylinder E34 M5 and made many changes and refinements to create a grand touring 4 door sedan with a 32 valve DOHC 4.9 liter S62 V8.  When first announced there was not going to be a manual and the US market went crazy demanding a manual tranny so BMW decided it would create the E39 with the 6 speed manual and that was a very good decision.  Although this model is now almost 20 years old there is no doubt it is still one of the most attractive and timeless body styles built for a 4 door sedan.

This 2002 BMW M5 is black over black extended leather with standard equipment includes rear window shades, xenon headlamps, and heated, power-adjustable front seats and a high end after market in-dash stereo and navigation system. The car was first delivered to Century West BMW in California, and spent time in Texas before relocating back to California  where it has been for the past two years. This M5 now has just over 55k miles a clean Carfax report, and a clean CA title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Black and features xenon headlamps with washers, a trunk lip spoiler, a glass sunroof, and quad exhaust outlets exiting through the lower rear valance. 18″ Style 65 wheels are finished in Shadow Chrome and are mounted with 245/40 up front and 275/35 out back. The E39 M5 was equipped with Dynamic Stability Control and Servotronic power steering as standard, and braking is handled by four-wheel vented discs.

The front seats are heated and power-adjustable, and additional amenities include a upgraded infotainment system with DVD-based navigation, automatic climate control, a self-dimming rear-view mirror, rear sunshades, and a rear-seat pass-through to the trunk with ski bag. The three-spoke multi-function steering wheel frames gray instrument dials including a 185-mph speedometer and a tachometer with variable redline, along with coolant temperature, oil temperature, and fuel-level gauges. Included photos show functional digital displays.

The 4.9-liter quad-cam V8 features VANOS variable valve timing and was factory rated at 394 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque when new.  Please note that the prior owner passed away and unfortunately we don’t have any paperwork on the maintenance of the car other than the Carfax report attached.

Seller, did you do a pre-purchase inspection?

Can you confirm paint with a meter?

I was looking at the Seller’s M1 and also saw this M5 and it is very nice. Overall condition is very nice, interior looks clean, paint work is very nice (did not have a paint meter but looks original), engine ran well, underneath was very dry and wheels look good. I would rate this a high driver with low miles. Not a buyer but just wanted to pass along my thoughts.

Does the car come with the original nav system?

I had the same exact car except in Carbon Black and I agree with Fizzyone, it is an absolute blast to drive and might be one of the last great sedans BMW made. GLWTA

I had a 2001 and it was one of my favorite BMW’s. The looks, the sound and the overall utility of these can’t be matched and did I mention it is a manual!!! Not in the market for one but someone is going to be very happy with this car.
