The Ferrari 550 Maranello was Ferrari’s answer to those who wanted a front-engine V12 model that outperformed the mid-engine sports cars. The front-engine models were also far more practical than the mid-engine styled sports cars with larger trunks which had the ability to fit golf clubs in the rear. Suspension and traction control technological advances during this period resulted in the 550’s ability to achieve handling that rivaled the mid-engine models. Another advance for this vehicle was covered headlight units that gave the car a homogenous line whether the lights were on or off. Power is derived from a 5.5L V12 paired to a manual 6-speed transmission putting out 485HP. This example is finished in a beautiful Azurro metallic with a cream-colored leather interior and blue piping.

This particular example was been part of a predominant Orange County collection and this matching numbers car features the 6-speed manual transmission. According to the manufacturer the 550 Maranello had a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph), and could accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds. The beautiful Azurro exterior and Crema interior make the perfect combination.  It was acquired after a shipping incident that ended up in a salvage title.  The previous owner made the repairs to the top and right rear and it looks and drive as any 550 should.  Although the previous owner completed a major service less than 1,000 miles ago prior to the new owner pick up we will have our Ferrari shop go through and make sure all items are up to date.

If you are looking for a beautiful 550 that can be driven and for a fraction of the current 550 pricing this might be the car to look at.

Looks like a great “driver” to get into the 12 cylinder Ferrari game.

Yes, these are truly one of the best looking older Ferrari’s out there. Not a buyer but keep watching the video and listening to the sound of the 12 cyl motor. BTW, if you have not heard what these sound like with a modified exhaust, check this video out, absolutely insane. https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/a32176012/550-maranello-custom-headers-sound/

This is very helpful and I am interested in further discussing the purchase. I will be reaching out later today to discuss.

Ok folks here is a bit more color on the car. Thanks for someone doing a bit more due diligence they got to the bottom of the history of this car. It was not a electrical issue on the car but a transport incident whereby something fell on the car damaging the top and rear glass. It was totaled by the insurance company and bought in 2002 and repaired by a group in Arizona. It was not driven much from 02-14 and then sold to a collector who has owned it for the past 6 years. Within the past 1000… Read more »

thought this sold. Did a PPI ever get done? I love this color combo, absolutely gorgeous.

GTracer

Surprised this did not sell. Any update from the group?

enesset

For anyone hunting Maranello’s the Ferrari Chat subforum “456/550/575″ has been helpful/educational to me.

F1lovr

We will see if a deal can be made and I will keep everyone updated. I love this color combo too. thx

enesset

F1Lovr if you work out a transaction it would be great to hear more about the car when you put your hands on it.
Love the color combo!

F1lovr

I am interested and will be contacting you. Somehow I lost my connection and could not submit a final bid.

HNT Motors

Thanks for the bidding and it was close to hitting reserve.

HNT Motors

Unfortunately, I have not been able to reach the original owner. The prior owner has confirmed his original statement that it was an electrical issue which resulted in taking the car back and as such the salvage title but I do not have anything that confirms this. As previously said a PPI can be done post auction to confirm the car is as it should be. Nothing to hide here.

F1lovr

Any update on the title?

Extremely helpful. That should result in a sale for you. This is a desirable color combo along with the shields and daytonas.

enesset, I took this car in trade from the Seller on another car I had. That said, the PO is selling a number of the Ferrari’s on this site and has a full time mechanic that works on his collection which are primarily Ferrari’s or Lamborghini’s. He has been the person that has serviced the car and as such “no receipts”. He has offered himself to speak with buyers directly, if interested. With the overall lack of history on this car I am willing to have someone do a PPI, at their expense, post auction and if the PPI comes… Read more »

BMWFan

This might convince me to bid on this car. Seller, please confirm.

enesset

The reason the recent invoice is important is simple things like collapsed motor mounts (not uncommon at all) is about a $2k line item.

If this car needs a full service, degreeing of the cams with timing/cam-belt change, water pump, etc that can be $3,500-$5k

etc etc etc

enesset

Seller — let me understand correctly.

We can bid and if there are any material mechanicals unearthed from the PPI we can choose to NOT close on the purchase. That’s a major positive.

In the posting it talks about recent service, am I missing seeing a copy of the documents?

I had been reluctant here because I just did a PPI on a 550 and the needs were not major but the “needs” list totaled over $20k.

C-YA

Seller, would still love to get additional info on the title. Please post when you can. thx

All, I have had a couple of people look and inspect the car locally but not a PPI. I am also trying to track down one of the prior owners to discuss the title issue. That said, I am prepared to have a post auction PPI done and if there are any mechanical or other issues identified, either repair or terminate and refund deposit. It is a beautiful car that drives amazing so I don’t have any worries.

Fizzyone

I love this color combo and also would love to know more about the history.

enesset

I know its been several days, but thanks for confirming the red fob. Not having it is not the end of the world but its PITA to get a new red one made from the guys in Wisconsin and I think it’s around $1k.

I love this color combo but given what I learned on another clean 550 recently during a PPI, I am not buying without one.

I’m going to continue watching this one.

Man, I love this car. Wish I could be a bidder but not in the cards today.
